Cool Sculpting

Body Contoring

CoolSculpting® is a unique fat-freezing procedure and is a nonsurgical. It is scientifically proven to reduce the pockets of fat in trouble areas like the flanks, abdomen, or underneath the chin with as little as a single session. CoolSculpting as a fat-freezing technology gives long-term results that take away the trouble from 'trouble spots'. Fat cells do not like cold and at a particular temperature threshold they freeze. Once the freezing happens, your body naturally eliminates the dead cells in one to 3 months or so, which results in a twenty to twenty-five percent reduction in fat at the treated area.

Overview

CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive fat reduction procedure that uses controlled cooling technology, known as cryolipolysis, to eliminate localized fat deposits. Unlike surgical fat removal procedures such as liposuction, CoolSculpting works by selectively targeting fat cells while preserving surrounding skin, muscle, and tissue. Once exposed to precise cooling temperatures, fat cells crystallize and undergo natural apoptosis, allowing the body to metabolize and eliminate them over time.

At CK Plastic Surgery, Dr. Charles Kim approaches CoolSculpting with the same level of anatomical expertise and precision used in surgical body contouring. Every CoolSculpting treatment begins with a detailed consultation and body analysis to determine whether non-surgical fat freezing is the most effective option for the patient’s goals. Dr. Kim evaluates fat thickness, skin elasticity, body composition, and lifestyle factors to ensure predictable, natural-looking results.

CoolSculpting is commonly used to treat areas such as the abdomen, flanks, love handles, inner thighs, outer thighs, arms, bra fat, banana roll, submental fat, and lower back fat. Advanced applicators allow for customized treatment of curved, flat, and small areas, ensuring optimal contact and consistent cooling throughout the treatment cycle.

One of the key advantages of CoolSculpting is its ability to provide permanent fat reduction without incisions, anesthesia, or scarring. Treated fat cells do not regenerate, making results long-lasting when combined with a stable weight and healthy lifestyle. Patients typically begin noticing visible fat reduction within 4–6 weeks, with continued improvement for up to three months as the body completes the fat elimination process.

Dr. Kim emphasizes realistic expectations and patient education, explaining how CoolSculpting differs from weight loss and why it is best suited for localized fat bulges rather than generalized obesity. By integrating CoolSculpting into a broader body contouring strategy, patients benefit from subtle yet meaningful improvements that enhance overall silhouette and confidence.

Recovery & Risks

CoolSculpting is considered a safe and well-tolerated non-invasive procedure, with most patients resuming normal activities immediately after treatment. Because the procedure does not involve surgery, needles, or anesthesia, recovery is minimal compared to invasive fat reduction options.

Following your Coolsculpting procedure, the usual side effects may include swelling, temporary redness, bruising, blanching, tingling, firmness, tenderness, stinging, aching, cramping, skin sensitivity, or itching as well as a feeling of fullness at the back of your throat after submandibular or submental area treatment. Other rare side effects can also occur.

Rare risks include paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), a condition in which treated fat cells enlarge instead of shrinking. While uncommon, Dr. Kim discusses this risk transparently during consultation and ensures patients are fully informed before proceeding.

Results develop gradually, with most patients noticing visible fat reduction within one to two months. Final outcomes are typically seen around three months post-treatment. Maintaining a stable weight, proper hydration, and healthy nutrition supports optimal results. CK Plastic Surgery provides post-treatment guidance and follow-up evaluations to monitor progress and determine whether additional sessions are beneficial.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical body contouring procedure that uses controlled cooling technology to freeze and eliminate stubborn fat cells. It is designed to reduce localized areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

How does CoolSculpting work?

During a CoolSculpting treatment, a device is applied to the targeted area, which then delivers controlled cooling to freeze the fat cells. The freezing process, known as cryolipolysis, causes the fat cells to crystallize and eventually die. Over time, the body naturally eliminates these dead fat cells, resulting in a more sculpted appearance.

Which areas of the body can be treated with CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for the treatment of several areas, including the abdomen, flanks (love handles), inner and outer thighs, double chin, upper arms, back fat, and underneath the buttocks (banana roll). It can effectively address fat in many common problem areas.

How long does a CoolSculpting treatment take?

Treatment times can vary depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Each session typically takes about 35 minutes to an hour. Some areas may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.

When will I see results from Cool Sculpting?

Results from CoolSculpting are not immediate. Over the following weeks and months, as the body naturally eliminates the treated fat cells, you will notice a gradual reduction in the treated area’s fat. Most people start to see noticeable improvements within one to three months after treatment.
