Gynecomastia may be caused by accumulation of fat or development of alveolar tissue due to the imbalance of hormones(estrogen and androgen in blood serum), and patients may have breasts like a woman’s breasts or rarely some may develop only one breast. Treatment is essential for those patients since gynecomastia brings mental stress and affects personal relations and social life. The cause of gynecomastia should first be found for an appropriate treatment, and the first thing to look is whether the patient has a disorder in the endocrine system. The breast enlargement in adolescence is considered as normal (more than 90% disappears within 3 years from the onset), and generally disappears before the age of 20. If a man has gynecomastia without any disorder in the endocrine system, then he needs a surgery, and the surgical methods differ upon the degree of the development of alveolar tissue.
