Overview
What a bulbous tip looks like
A bulbous tip is round, wide, or undefined, sometimes described as a ball at the end of the nose. It can make the whole nose look larger or heavier even when the bridge is straight and in proportion.
Cartilage and skin
Tip shape comes from two things: the cartilage underneath and the thickness of the skin on top. Wide, rounded, or weak cartilage and thicker, oilier skin both make a tip look fuller. Both are mostly inherited, and tips can also widen and droop a little with age.
How tiplasty works
Dr. Kim performs tiplasty, reshaping the tip cartilage with stitches and, when needed, small cartilage grafts for definition and support. Since only the lower part of the nose changes, the bridge stays as it is, and recovery is usually easier than with a full rhinoplasty. If you'd also like to adjust the bridge or nostrils, it can be combined with rhinoplasty or alar reduction.
A note on thick skin
With thick nasal skin, you can still get a noticeably more refined tip, but the skin sets a limit on how sharp it can look. Tip swelling also takes the longest to settle, often many months. Dr. Kim will be upfront about what's realistic for you.
